Our History: From Rivets to Welding
CISCO’s story began in 1895 when D.J. Champion founded the Champion Rivet Company in Cleveland, Ohio. The company specialized in manufacturing steel rivets, the world’s oldest fasteners, and supplied various industries nationwide.
In 1935, Champion Rivet opened a sales office in Houston, Texas, to cater to the growing demand of the Gulf Coast area. This strategic move would later prove pivotal for the company’s future.
With the advent of World War II and the development of new fabrication technology, rivets were gradually replaced by welding as the preferred method of joining metal. Thomas J. Kegg started Champion Welding and Rivet Company in 1944 to adapt to this change, offering riveting and welding services and products.
By 1948, the company had fully transitioned to the welding supply industry and changed its name to Champion Industrial Sales Company, or CISCO. Under the leadership of Thomas J. Kegg and his son David Champion Kegg, who joined the company in 1950, CISCO expanded its product line and customer base.
In 1979, Michael David Kegg joined his father in the company and became the third generation of CISCO. He continued to grow the company and opened a second office in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1992. This office operates a sales and service warehouse that serves various customers in the coastal bend area.
